Racial Identity Therapy

Somatic Therapy Helping You Heal Racialized Trauma and Racial Identity Issues in Michigan

Raina Session-22.jpg

You feel like you're straddling two worlds.

Our world caters to people who fit into neat and clean categories. And when you don't? People treat you fucking weird.

You know what I'm talking about:

  • Unsolicited comments about your skin tone and the implication that you aren't Black enough.

  • Name calling No, I am not an oreo, thank you very much.

  • People doubting your Mexican heritage because you don't speak Spanish.

  • Invalidation of your reality ("You're just being sensitive.")

  • Being exoticized for looking soooo "unique"

  • Grandma giving you special treatment because your skin is fair compared to your siblings

  • And why does everyone have to ask "What are you?"

It's left you feeling like you just don't belong anywhere.

  • You feel like you have to pick and choose aspects of your personality to share in certain spaces.

  • You don’t feel like you have a strong racial or cultural identity.

  • Questions like 'who are you?' or 'what are you?' send you into a panic.

  • You feel racial imposter syndrome big time or feel like you have to prove or defend your cultural affiliations.

  • Social anxiety stops you from seeking out the kinds of friendships you're craving.

  • You constantly have to defend yourself against family members or others who question your identity or capabilities.

You are SO ready to move on from all this bullshit.

You're ready to:

  • Feel more confident about who you are.

  • Embody all of what you are instead of breaking yourself up into fractions.

  • Build friendships with people who don't make you fight for your place.

  • Make peace with the fact that your family is not what you need them to be.

  • Get connected to your heritage without questioning if you're appropriating or gonna get struck down by the ancestors.

  • Dive into movement and social justice work instead of worrying that you have too much privilege to speak up.

Your experiences are real and your feelings are valid. Working together, we can acknowledge your reality and heal your belonging wounds.

As a mixed race kid myself, developing an expertise in racial identity has felt like a true calling.

I use somatic approaches for healing these wounds. These are experiential approaches that address the physiological and emotional learnings that shape your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships because everything you've experienced has deeply impacted your body - how you feel in your body and how you feel about your body.

I've accompanied many, many mixed race people through deep healing and reclamation of identity and belonging. I've also supported others with racial or cultural wounds, such as:

  • BIPOC navigating primarily white institutions

  • Adoptees

  • People in interracial relationships

  • First and second generation immigrants / third culture kids

  • And more!

This is sacred work and I'd love to support you through it.

My calendar is open and i look forward to seeing your name pop up on it!
