Somatic Therapy
Have you been in therapy before and it just didn't quite stick? Perhaps you've learned about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, but felt those modalities lacked something you really needed?
Somatic therapy might be the answer.
As you probably know, from your life as a human being, we don't just experience our lives in our heads. Our brain is part of our body, and is constantly receiving data about our experience from the bottom-up, as much as it provides information and commands from the top-down.
In somatic therapy, we don't jump into identifying what's wrong. We start with simply evaluating what's happening. And then we get curious: Why is this happening? When have I felt this way before? What do I believe about what I'm capable of or deserving of?
Once we have an accurate, objective, non-judgemental map of what happens when you are stressed or triggered, we can begin to build in the tools and resources to help you go from just surviving to thriving.
What I love about somatic therapy is that it definitely has space for all the icky, mucky feelings and experiences that come with being human. It recognizes that hey, this is part of the experience too, and we can be present in that muck. But it also creates so much space for exploration, play, and creativity. We can release ourselves from outdated templates about how we should be, and come into who we are and what we want.
If you're feeling stuck in old patterns, worried you might be broken, or ready to come alive, reach out. I'd be honored to be with you in your journey.
